What is Foot Reflexology?

Foot reflexology is a type of Putrajaya Spa massage that involves the feet. Some people believe that certain areas of the foot correspond to body parts and organs, and massaging those areas helps relieve pain, balance emotions and promote wellness. It is similar to acupuncture and acupressure but doesn’t use needles. Some people get foot reflexology only occasionally or as a preventive treatment, while others receive it every week for a set period of time to help treat a particular condition.

A trained reflexologist will apply thumb walking pressure to specific points on your foot, which are known as pressure-points. The thumb walking pressure stimulates your central nervous system and triggers relaxation responses in the areas of your body that correspond to those areas on a foot chart. It can also reduce stress, improve blood circulation and encourage the elimination of toxins in your body.

During a foot reflexology session, you sit in a comfortable chair while the practitioner gently massages your feet with her fingers, knuckles, heels and toes. Your session may last for up to 30 minutes and is usually relaxing. The comforting touch of a foot Urban Bliss massage can help alleviate stress and depression. It can also improve your sleep, boost your immune system and increase energy levels. It can even reduce the symptoms of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, especially when combined with other therapies.

Foot Reflexology is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts of the qi, or life force, energy that runs through the body. Your reflexologist will stimulate the corresponding areas of your feet using ancient massage techniques. If a foot reflexology area feels tender or sore, it indicates blocked qi energy in the corresponding body part. The reflexologist will spend more time on that area to unblock the qi energy flow.

Some researchers claim that foot reflexology can help ease anxiety, fatigue and lower blood pressure. However, more research is needed.

A number of studies suggest that foot reflexology can relieve arthritis and headache pain. It can also alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia, including muscle pain and stiffness and gastrointestinal issues such as nausea and constipation.

If you are considering receiving foot reflexology, talk to your doctor first. It is generally safe, but some experts recommend avoiding it if you are pregnant or have circulatory problems or gout. It’s also not recommended for children under 12. Foot reflexology is not a replacement for medical treatments, and it’s important to consult your doctor if you have any health concerns.
